The story of Apflbutzn - Faires Gwand begins at home in Styria, in Graz. We noticed that we ourselves, and also many of our friends, were increasingly placing value on an environmentally conscious lifestyle. In the selection of food, in the separation of waste, in the avoidance of plastic bags. But in one area there was still a need for action: organic and fair clothing. And so we started our research, about different suppliers, about materials and about methods how we could decorate our new clothes. Our little project started to "bear fruit" and the feedback was consistently positive. That's why we decided to start our business. You are probably asking yourself: What can Apflbutzn do better than others? The answer is quite clear - we can't do it better, but we do a few things differently. Our Leiberl are made of certified organic cotton and are produced under fair conditions. We use only water-based inks for our prints. We used mostly wood scraps to build our first screen printing machine and we print our banderoles on recycled paper. The shipping of the Leiberl is CO2 neutral in boxes made of grass paper. We either draw our motifs ourselves, or we work together with young artists. Our story begins in Styria, but should not end here!

This is your Story!

How would you describe the sense of life in your city?

Graz has, especially in summer, a Mediterranean feeling. After you have enjoyed a stroll through our shop in Sporgasse you can have a cool regional drink in the shade. Afterwards you can taste delicious organic ice cream in one of the many ice cream parlors and enjoy the view from the Schlossberg.

What was your first designed piece?

After the earthquake disaster in Nepal in the spring of 2015, we designed a charity shirt. Through this shirt showing the temple from Bhaktapur we were able to collect €1300 in donations for the earthquake victims.

What is your favourite place in the city?

Franziskaner Square in summer time

Which sightseeing attraction a tourist should not miss in your city?

Clearly: the view of the historic old town of Graz from the Schlossberg. In the evening you should definitely visit the Lendviertel and have a drink in one of the bars.

What makes your brand special?

We try, apart from our products, to see sustainability as holistically as possible. In our Recycled Conceptstore in the center of Graz, the entire furnishing can either be recycled or was recycled by us.

What is the story of your brand?

It all started with the earthquake in Nepal in 2015. Thomas, one of the founders was in the region shortly before and wanted to help. So a Charity-Leiberl was created at very short notice - after the feedback was very good, we decided to continue.
