The Central–Mid-Levels Escalator and Walkway System links the Central business district with the residential Mid-Levels over a route of about 800 metres. With more than 20 escalator and moving-walkway sections, it is considered the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. It runs downhill in the morning and uphill for the rest of the day to match commuter flows. The route passes numerous bars, restaurants and the historic Soho district.
