The Tian Tan Buddha, also known as the Big Buddha, has sat on a hilltop above Ngong Ping on Lantau Island since 1993. At around 34 metres tall, it ranks among the largest seated bronze Buddha statues in the world. Visitors who climb its 268 steps are rewarded with sweeping views over Lantau's hills. Next to the statue stands Po Lin Monastery, one of Hong Kong's most important Buddhist monasteries.
